Happy holidays Google doodle plays jingle bells for Christmas

Happy holidays Google doodle plays jingle bells for Christmas

It's time for Christmas and Google has come up with an interactive doodle on the eve of Christmas, playing the celebration tune of 'jingle Bells'. Making the 'Happy Holidays' Google doodle musical and interactive, Google wishes us Merry Christmas, bringing us in a festive mood.
The happy holidays doodle has six glowing buttons. Each button plays a sound from the musical notes of 'jingle bells', when we click on it. Once we click on all the six buttons, it shows a button with a musical note. When we click on this musical note button, it plays 'jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way'.
This year's Google happy holidays doodle is made up of lit up holiday symbols - snowflake, Santa Claus, bell, snowman, candle and a gift box - on a dark background, symbolising the night sky. The Google logo appears as a faint outline behind the holiday icons.

Google
Google has been wishing its users with a pre-Christmas doodle for the last 10 years. In 2010 Google has put up a doodle of interactive portraits of holiday scenes from around the world. Before 2010, Google used multiple doodles for the holiday season.
Google recently announced the revamp of its Doodle site (www.google.com/doodles) which houses all Google doodles since the very first back in 1998.
By our estimates Google has put up as many as 259 doodles on its home page in 2011 commemorating different events of importance across the world. Some of the doodles are limited to Google's country specific home pages while others are appear globally.

Rapper protests piracy bill with ‘SOPA Cabana’

Rapper protests piracy bill with ‘SOPA Cabana’

British rapper Dan Bull has released a new video further showcasing the viral opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act, setting his own criticisms to the measure to music.
In a photo montage that features 86 people (and one cat), Bull rails against SOPA, reiterating fears that the legislation could limit freedom of speech and particularly hurt the rap community, which often uses samples of other tracks and beats to supplement their own songs.

Celebrating 100 glorious years

http://delhi.gov.in/wps/wcm/connect/11dd31004fe87b81b01ebbd9d1b46642/delhi_gate.jpg?MOD=AJPERES&lmod=827291559&CACHEID=11dd31004fe87b81b01ebbd9d1b46642

Today Delhi completes 100 years of its existence and also marks the centenary of the third and last Durbar held in 1911.

That year the imperial capital was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi and has since remained the seat of political activity.

King George V and Queen Mary were crowned the Emperor and Empress of India at the Delhi Durbar or mass assembly on Dec 12.

The foundation of the new city was laid Dec 15, three days after the coronation.

The mythical Indraprastha of the Mahabharata was formally declared the capital of Imperial India.

The capital was named New Delhi in 1927 and was formally inaugurated Feb 13, 1931, says R V Smith, historian and writer.

Seven cities -Siri, Tughlakabad, Jahanapanah, Ferozabad, Dinpanah, Shergarh and Shahajahanabad- were put together to form an eighth city called ‘new’ Delhi, he says.

Two British architects -Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker - laid out the architectural map of the city.

The small villages and hamlets in the southern part of the city gave way to symmetrical, planned neighbourhoods and architectural marvels like the Secretariat and the Parliament, says Smith.

St. James’ Church, built in the 1830s, is one of the oldest surviving British buildings in the city, he says.

Historian and writer Mahmood Farooqui says being the capital, Delhi developed after 1947 and a lot of state-sponsored industrial development took place in the 1950s and 1960s.

Before New Delhi, the core of the city lay in the northern parts: Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Civil Lines flourishing with trade and commerce.

People started moving to Connaught place only after World War II, says Smith.

He said in the 1960’s the sprawling circular market was more habited by the upwardly mobile and people then wore the best clothes to visit the market.

The last 100 years have seen Delhi grow and change.

The nation’s capital is perhaps the best example of the variety and diversity of the country. It’s the home of migrants, says Sanjay Kumar of the Centre for Study of Developing Societies.

From a population of 240,000 in 1911 it has grown to 22 million now. The burgeoning population has seen single units with sprawling lawns give way to skyscrapers and concrete jungles.

The city got a facelift for the 1982 Asian Games and another even bigger one during last year’s Commonwealth Games.

Many new infrastructure and facilities came up.

Globalisation also saw major changes in infrastructure, retailing and other spheres

The west became even closer and western living and ideas infiltrated into our daily lives and effected drastic changes on the social front, says octogenarian and retired government official, Ram Lal Sanganer.

From colour TV to a proliferation of channels brought the world into our drawing rooms.

With living standards improved transport and other means.

The skies were opened up, air travel became cheaper as private airlines mushroomed.

Perhaps the greatest revolution was ushered in by the metro rail.

People no longer have to contend with the long queues, ‘eternal’ wait at bus-stops and traffic jams.

Christianity has also deepened its roots over the century in Delhi. It has been a saga of great enterprise -for the spread of education, social, philanthropic, general wellbeing and better health facilities with the aid of hospitals like Holy Family and St. Stephen’s Hospitals, says Smith.

The largest number of schools and colleges are run by this vibrant minority which has brought manifold development in all spheres of life.

Seventy years after the erection of St. Mary’s Church, the Sacred Heart Cathedral was built and blessed on December 8, 1935.

In 1910, by a Degree of the Sacred Congregation of Faith, Shimla Archdiocese was erected.

Twenty-seven years later portions of Punjab which were under the Archdiocese of Agra were added to the Archdiocese of Shimla.

With this addition, the Archdiocese was renamed as Archdiocese of Delhi-Shimla.

In 1959, the Archdiocese was bifurcated into two separate ecclesiastical units, Diocese of Shimla-Chandigarh and Archdiocese of Delhi and both were handed over to the Diocese clergy.

At the time of the bifurcation, in 1959, the Archdiocese of Delhi had only 10 churches.

At present there are 41 parishes, most of them in the Capital itself, Smith added.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-67pWAxZTBkM/ThZ7WL2R-YI/AAAAAAAAACk/FQVTocFV5e0/s1600/Nokia+N9.jpg

The MeeGo Harmattan running Nokia N9 may be the last of its kind, but there seems to be no death of quality apps that are coming out for the device. It already has apps for Facebook, Twitter and a few games like Angry Birds and Need For Speed built in, but there are a few key apps which are missing.
In this post I have complied a list of must have apps for the N9, all of which are free. Most of these apps are available from the Nokia Store and clicking on the name should take you to the download page. Lets get started.
20 Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • DropN9: As the name suggests, its a Dropbox client for the Nokia N9. The app lets you download and upload filed in multiples and is a must have if you are a dropbox user.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • Internet Radio: An neat little Internet Radio app for the N9, that features a UI is similar to the default music player with album art being replaced by cover art for the featured radio stations. Discovery is helped along by ‘Hot Picks’, Locations, Language and Genre sections. Detailed post here.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • Phone Torch: No frills app that lets you use the inbuilt LED flash as a torch. Launch the app and it immediately turns on the LED and exiting the app closes it.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9

Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9

Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • gPodder:  A great podcast client with full integration to the gpodder.net web service and a unique user interface, supporting YouTube and Soundcloud feeds in addition to normal audio and video podcast feeds. gPodder will help you manage and synchronize your podcast subscription and listening status (including resuming, streaming and downloading). Discover new, free content via gpodder.net’s podcast directory.

  • File Manager: The N9 comes without an inbuilt file manager and the this free apps fills in perfectly. Its light weight and does everything you would expect from an app of this nature.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • Battery Usage: This app mimics the battery usage graph that you may have seen on Android devices. In addition to telling you which app eats how much battery, it can also tell you how much of that battery was consumed in the background and how much was drained while the app was actually in use. This will help you decide if you can leave the app running or whether you should exit everytime you are done with it.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
  • City Scene: The app lets you explore a bunch of cities in the US and Europe in 3D, much like Google Street view, but with a few extra features.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9
Shortcuts: The N9 has a set of 4 quick access shortcuts which you can bring up by swiping up for a short distance and holding it there. The problem is that you cannot change these without an app. Enter Shortcuts which lets you change the four of these by simply dragging an app of your choice to the current location of the shortcut.

For example, I have a keyboard which gives me quick access to smileys, similarly there are a bunch of other options available. You can even create your own keyboard at www.mesinput.com and use this app to install it on the phone.
Must Have Apps For The Nokia N9

It displays upcoming entries on the events screen and lets you choose which calendar to pull them from. You can also select the number of days it should show entries from. It is still being developed and isn’t in the Nokia Store, get it here directly .

3D World Gaze: Cool app for exploring the world around you, built with the premise that the Earth is a giant sphere and we are always on top of it. What follows is that far-away continents and cities are in reality somewhere below you and not linear, like we usually think of them
